Hope the summer is treating you nicely! Just a little update here to say that Fred has been busy writing a bunch of new tunes lately and the trio are planning to go into the studio in the early autumn to record. The new material is very different from the mood of "Hedgehogs & Elephants" - for some previews of the new tunes and updates about the album's progress, watch this space and make sure to join the Fred Kinbom mailing list if you are not already on it.

Vote for "Isolation Song" in Storm The Charts campaign - April 11, 2010
22 April update: Thanks a lot to everyone who voted in the first round! "Isolation Song" was #36 of all 573 tracks in number of votes. But it did not go through to round two in the first week, due to the nature of the group-of-5-knockout-system of voting. Now the voting system has been changed, with random polls of 5 tracks, and no direct links to specific part-taking artists in the polls. To support this project, go to http://stormthecharts.com to listen to and vote for independent music in the Storm The Charts campaign.
Here is a short "campaign video" for "Isolation Song":
Many, many thanks for your support! Shortly, five winners of a free copy of Fred Kinbom's album "Hedgehogs & Elephants" will be randomly selected from those who voted and e-mailed to take part in the draw during the first week of the campaign!

Many a Man / Igelkott single - new download! - February 4, 2010
"Many a Man" - a brand new recording by the Fred Kinbom Trio, backed by a previously unreleased version of "Igelkott" (with some beautiful fiddle playing by Nick Pynn) is released today to raise money for a good friend who had a motorcycle accident last week. Thankfully he is alive and will recover eventually, but he has broken his right leg in four places and also his left hand. He is a self-employed tradesman and he will not be able to work for 6 months at least. So, we thought that "every little helps", and Jim, Sam and I recorded "Many a Man" on Tuesday night, and have now made it available as a digital download, to raise some money to help my friend out. My sister Anna Kinbom made the artwork.
The two-track single costs only £1 and all proceeds will go to my friend, to make at least a small but positive difference in his unfortunate and difficult situation.
To buy the single, please go to the "Shop" page and click on the PayPal button there. The two songs will be e-mailed to your PayPal registered e-mail, or any other e-mail address you wish (just mention it as a note with the payment).
Many thanks for your support!

Back from New York! And BBC live session coming up - November 24, 2009
I am just back from a fantastic week in New York City where I had a great time playing my first US gigs, meeting lots of lovely people and discovering the marvelous beers of the Brooklyn Brewery. :-)
The Fred Kinbom Trio will perform live on BBC radio's "South:Live" show this coming Sunday (29 November). We will play four songs live on the show which runs 19:00-21:00 UK time. You can tune in online through the BBC iPlayer at www.bbc.co.uk/sussex (just click on the "listen live" button) from anywhere in the world, or on your radio locally (frequencies listed in the calendar here on my website).

Argentinian nature and "Nattlunk" - September 20, 2009
Today my sister Anna made a video of footage she filmed in Paraná, Argentina, set to my song "Nattlunk". I think the images and the mood of the song go very well together.

Radio show on-air and online - June 13, 2009
Today I had the pleasure to be a guest on Mr. & Mr. Finn's show on Radio Reverb, playing a few tunes live, previewing a couple of tracks from my upcoming album, chatting to the Finns and selecting some of my favourite tunes from other artists.
This hour-long show will be broadcast on Monday 15 June at 14:00 UK time, on 97.2 FM locally and at www.radioreverb.com worldwide. (If you miss it on Monday the show will be re-broadcast on Saturday 20 June at 07:00 UK time).
A new video (lap sliding on a frozen lake) - May 18, 2009
Here is a video of my tune "Isolation Song", recorded in Stockholm, Sweden in February in an all-analogue studio with French artist Marjolaine on accordion and backing vocals (and my brother Valter on percussion and Sebastian Berghult on double bass).
(Click on the "HD" or "HQ" youtube option for better sound and image quality).
I hope you will enjoy it!

Another album preview - April 17, 2009
Hi folks!
Last weekend I tried out an old composition of mine called "Dusk Dawn" (written on piano back in 2005) on my baritone Weissenborn - I recorded it (added some electric lap steel too), uploaded it to youtube (along with a little picture slideshow) to see what people thought of it. The response has been very positive so it will definitely go on the album. :-) Here it is (an unmastered rough mix):
I hope you will enjoy it!

Video of new tune from gig last night - December 17, 2008
Just wanted to share a song that will be on my upcoming album from a very enjoyable gig last night in Brighton with The Adventurists. We all got together the night before the gig, and learned a couple of each others tunes - it all felt really fresh and was a lot of fun! The tune is called "Nattlunk".
New/old tune - your opinion? - December 7, 2008
This weekend I listened to some recordings of songs I wrote for my old band on "normal" guitar, before I started playing lap steel. I tried out one tune called "Not Tonight" on my baritone Weissenborn, and made a recording/youtube video to see what people think of it. I am considering including it on the album I'm making, and I would love to hear what you think of it. Here is the video:
Some new pics and a review - December 2, 2008
Just thought I'd mention that I've added some photos from recent gigs in Germany and France, and I've also added a reviews section to the website, as the first "official review" of my lap slide music has been published in the current issue of Acoustic Magazine in the UK. (It was the only CD I gave away of the "Crystal Bar EP" to the press - when my album is finished I intend to be more "professional", so if you know of any good publications that may want to review my music, please drop me an e-mail! :-)
Toodle pip!
Fred
Album update and preview - November 13, 2008
Well, my album recordings are taking longer than planned - it will probably not be ready until February or something like that. But I thought I'd show some samples of the album-in-progress here, so I have added a rough mix of the tune "The Jolly Baker of Aachen" on the music page, recorded last month with Sam Walker on drums. Comments and feedback would be much appreciated - I will leave it there for a month or so and then add new tunes up until when the album is ready.
New website and album in the making - September 28, 2008
Welcome to my new website! I will make some design changes here in the future when time allows but for now, at least I have a home!
I am currently recording my first lap sliding full-length CD, called "Hedgehogs & Elephants". A couple of tracks done so far, plenty of work left to do. I hope to have it ready by December. Please sign up for the mailing list and/or check back here every now and then for news on this. It will be for sale here on this site when it's available.
